The army raided the location of a terrorist group in Egypt's Northern Sinai on Saturday, leaving one militant killed and 25 injured, said a military spokesperson statement issued Sunday.

The statement explained that the raid targeted the group responsible for the killing of 16 soldiers last August and the kidnapping of seven others, who were returned after a government deal, earlier this year.

It added that the army's surprise attack destroyed a weapons warehouse that belonged to the militants.

Egypt’s military has announced earlier that it was stepping up its presence in Sinai to reduce the ever-increasing Islamist militants’ attacks.

Their attacks, which mostly target security bases, have significantly increased since the army’s ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi on July 3.
