Former Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Mohamed ElBaradei - Reuters
Former director of the International Atomic Energy Agency Mohamed ElBaradei warned that a constituent assembly, to write the constitution, that does not represent all the different factions of society may lead to social fragmentation.
“Unless constituent assembly reformed to represent diverse schools of thought, outcome will be a constitution that ruptures social cohesion.” ElBaradei posted on Twitter on Monday.
The Nobel Peace Prize Laureate had suggested on an earlier occasion that a new assembly, that represents all of Egypt's factions, be formed, in order for legislative power to be transferred to it in light of the court's decision to annul President Mohamed Mursi's reinstatement of parliament.
Some political forces have complained about the current makeup of the constituent assembly, considering it overridden by Islamists.
