CAIRO, Nov 30 (Aswat Masriya) – Dozens of students protested on Sunday a court ruling dropping charges against Egypt's toppled President Hosni Mubarak, over complicity in the killing of protesters, in universities nationwide.

Students staged protests at the Universities of Cairo, Alexandria, Zagazig, al-Azhar, Tanta and Mansoura, calling for retrying the former president.

The protests come as part of a wave of dissent which followed the issuance of the ruling against Mubarak on Saturday.

Security forces dispersed a large protest in Cairo's Tahrir Square on Saturday night. Clashes between security forces and protesters left two killed and 13 injured, according to the health ministry.

Security forces briefly broke into the University of Alexandria's faculty of commerce following protests staged on campus, reported the Association for Freedom of Thought and Expression (AFTE).

Clashes erupted in the University of Zagazig between protesting students and the university's administrative security.

An eye-witness told Aswat Masriya that the university chairman summoned security forces into campus to break up the clashes. Security forces used teargas and birdshot to disperse the protests, AFTE reported.

A group of students were reportedly arrested.

Clashes also erupted between student protesters and security forces at the University of Tanta in Sharqiya, where eight students were arrested.

The Cairo Criminal Court dropped on Saturday the case against Mubarak over complicity in the killing of protesters during the January 2011 uprising which toppled his regime.

The court also acquitted Mubarak's Interior Minister Habib al-Adly and four of his aides on charges of inciting and aiding the killing of 238 protesters.

Egypt's top prosecutor announced on Saturday his intention to challenge all rulings at the Court of Cassation.

Mubarak and his interior minister were sentenced to life in prison in 2012 for the same charges before an appeals court ordered their retrial. The retrial began in April, 2013.

In May, a Cairo court sentenced Mubarak to three years in prison on embezzlement charges.

He is serving time in a military hospital in Cairo, where he returned upon Saturday's ruling.
