Clashes erupted on Saturday between opponents and supporters of former Islamist President Mohamed Mursi in Beheira leaving 14 people injured.

The clashes began after the supporters tried to stage a rally from a mosque in Damnhour, but the opponents prevented them from rallying and besieged four of them inside a shop in the area, reported an Aswat Masriya eyewitness.

Central Security Forces deployed six cars in order to separate both sides and fired teargas bombs to disperse them. The forces rescued the besieged supporters before they were assaulted.

Beheria's prosecution has ordered the detention of 24 members of the Muslim Brotherhood on charges of attempted murder in relation to violence that flared up on Friday.
