An Ismaliya misdemeanor court has asked the International Criminal Police Organization to arrest the Islamists who raided Wadi al-Natroon Prison during the 2011 uprising that toppled Hosni Mubarak.

The court asked on Sunday that fugitives Samy Shehab from Hezbollah, Ayman Nofal and Mohamed al-Hady from Hamas and Ramzy Mowafy from al-Qaeda be captured for investigations in the crimes attributed to them.

In the hearing, Judge Khaled Mahgoub said, “The prisoners’ escape took place with the assistance of foreign parties, including Hamas, al-Qassam Brigades, Hezbollah and the Muslim Brotherhood, resulting in the escape of 11,161 prisoners and the killing of 11.”

Investigations have revealed that two Brotherhood members, Ibrahim Hagag and al-Sayed Ayad, were among those who used tools to raid the prison, Mahgoub said, asking for the necessary legal procedures to be taken with them.

The court asked the prosecution to question Brotherhood figures and jihadist movements in allegations of terrorism and helping prisoners escape.

It also accepted al-Sayed Atteya Mohamed’s appeal for acquittal and referred his file to the general prosecution for further investigations. 

Mohamed was the main suspect in the Wadi al-Natroon case.
