NORTH SINAI, Sept 2 (Aswat Masriya) – Two "extremists" were killed Monday night amid clashes with security forces in North Sinai's Sheikh Zuweid, a security source said.

Security forces raided a farm whose owner is accused of shooting down a military aircraft in a village in Sheikh Zuweid, the security source added to Aswat Masriya. He said clashes erupted between the group of "extremists" and security forces when the former shot at the latter.

At least three people died on Sunday during a security campaign in Arish. A 17-year-old girl was killed inside a house targeted by security forces along with two other terrorists.

Egypt's security forces have intensified their security measures in North Sinai in reaction to repeated militant attacks that target army and police officials, which rose significantly since the military ouster of former President Mohamed Mursi last year.

A fact-sheet prepared by Egypt's ministry of foreign affairs put the death toll for terrorism acts which took place since January 2011 and until April 2014 at 971, including 664 security personnel.
