CAIRO, Jul 9 (Aswat Masriya) - Airport security arrested a member of the defunct Revolutionary Youth Coalition as he attempted to fly out of the country early Thursday, accusing him of complicity in violence, airport security sources said.

Khaled al-Sayed, a leftist political activist was stopped at the airport as he attempted to board a plane to the Qatari capital, being told he was on a travel ban list, the sources said. He was handed over to a security apparatus to "take the necessary legal procedures." 

His lawyer, Halim Hanish told Aswat Masriya Sayed was detained by Homeland Security pending investigation.

Sayed was headed for Doha to visit his wife, who lives in the gulf city, according to a statement by the Freedom for the Brave movement. The movement advocates for the release of those detained pending politically-motivated charges.

The leftist political activist sent a text message to a lawyer, telling him he was arrested, the movement said in a statement. Sayed's cell phone was shut down 20 minutes later.

Sayed was arrested more than once since the 2011 uprising which toppled the regime of former president Hosni Mubarak. He was a member of the defunct Revolutionary Youth Coalition, formed in support of the uprising.

He was arrested from a protest commemorating the uprising's third anniversary in January 2014. Sayed spent two months in preventive detention, where he said he was subjected to torture.
