CAIRO, March 16 (Aswat Masriya) Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood has condemned the army's accusation that the group is responsible for a recent attack on a checkpoint, describing it as groundless.

A shooting by unidentified assailants near Cairo killed six conscripts on Saturday in the latest in a series of attacks that increased following the overthrow of President Mohamed Mursi in July.

Egypt's army spokesman said on Saturday that the assailants belonged to the Muslim Brotherhood which Egypt declared a "terrorist organization" at the end of last year.

"He [the army spokesman] wakes up every day to attribute all the crimes and crises to the Muslim Brotherhood without investigation or evidence," the Brotherhood said.

It added that the "empty accusations" tarnish the regime's own image.
