CAIRO, Aug 23 (Aswat Masriya) - Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shokry will fly to Saudi Arabia on Saturday evening to discuss the latest developments in Syria.

Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Qatar, and UAE, members of the Friends of Syria group, will also attend the ministerial meeting, which comes in light of the deteriorating situation in the Arab Mashreq and the rise of radical movements, a statement by the Egypt's Foreign Ministry said.

The rise of the Islamic State (IS) in Iraq and Syria emphasises the pressing need for a political solution to the Syrian crisis to restore Syria's stability, the statement added.

When asked whether the recent threats of American military intervention in both Syria and Iraq were the reason behind this meeting, Shoukry asserted that meeting has been scheduled a week ago, reported state-run MENA agency.

Nevertheless, this development will be subject to further assessment by the ministers, he added.
