The Egyptian government, headed by Prime Minister Hisham Kandil, will continue to perform its duties until the election of a new House of Representatives.

News that the cabinet may resign had spread in recent weeks particularly following a comment made by one of President Mohamed Mursi’s aides who said the matter was up for discussion.

“Hisham Kandil’s government is continuing until the elections and is performing its duties normally,” said cabinet spokesman Alaa al-Hadidi as reported by the state news agency MENA.

Hadidi insisted that the presidency is behind the government.

The parliamentary election was supposed to begin in April but a court order last week delayed its procedures, referring its law to the constitutional court to review its legality.
