NORTH SINAI, Aug 5 (Aswat Masriya) - Unidentified assailants shot and injured an army conscript on duty in the city of Rafah, North Sinai on Tuesday evening.

"The injured conscript, originally from Qena, was admitted into Rafah hospital,"medical sources told Aswat Masriya, adding that he sustained an injury in his right thigh.

Security forces are currently combing the area in search of the assailants.

On Monday, gunmen fired at a United States soldier with the multinational peacekeeping mission in the Sinai Peninsula. The mission is present in the peninsula to observe the enforcement of Egypt’s 1979 peace treaty with Israel.

The armed forces spokesman said on Tuesday that three "terrorists" were killed in a security crackdown in North Sinai.

The armed forces have been launching crackdowns in various cities to arrest militant extremists that target police and army elements in Sinai since former President Mohamed Mursi's ouster in July 2013.
