CAIRO, Jun 23 (Aswat Masriya) - Egypt received the French Frégate Européenne Multi-Missions (FREMM) frigate on Tuesday in the presence of Egypt's Minister of Defence Sobhy Sedky in France.

The frigate is expected to be at the inauguration of the new canal being dug in Egypt's Suez on August 8.

Sedky headed to Paris in an official visit on Monday to witness the handing over of the ship. He is also scheduled to meet with high-ranking French military officials to explore regional and international issues of joint interest.

Egypt had secured the purchase of the frigate and two dozen Rafale fighter jets in February in a 5.2 billion-euro deal with France.

Sedky will also witness the handover of the first batch of Rafale jets during his visit, a military source told Aswat Masriya.
