CAIRO, Jan 16 (Aswat Masriya) - A car bomb went off outside a police station in Egypt's second city, Alexandria, on Friday, leaving no deaths or casualties behind.

An improvised explosive device (IED) was planted inside a car that was parked outside the San Stefano police station, Alexandria Security Chief Amin Ezz said.

Civil protection forces moved to the scene for inspection and combing the area in search for any other IEDs.

Militants have stepped up attacks targeting security forces in Egypt, particularly in the Sinai Peninsula, since the army's ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi in July 2013, which followed mass protests against his rule.
