CAIRO, Mar 6 (Aswat Masriya) - Ten alleged members of Sinai-based militant group Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis were killed, and 12 others were injured in army air strikes over North Sinai's town of Sheikh Zuweid on Friday, army sources said.

Apache helicopters raided two houses believed to shelter the suspected Ansar members south of Sheikh Zuweid, the sources added.

Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis changed its name to Sinai Province after pledging allegiance to the leader of the Islamic State fighters in Iraq and Syria. It has claimed responsibility for a number of attacks against security personnel in Sinai.

Militants have stepped up attacks targeting security forces in Egypt, particularly in the Sinai Peninsula, following the military ouster of President Mohamed Mursi in July 2013 after mass protests against his rule.
