CAIRO, May 3 (Aswat Masriya) - The Salafi Nour Party will support presidential contender Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in the upcoming elections, a source at the party's higher board said.

The board will issue a statement shortly to officially announce its support for Sisi, the source, who declined to be named, said on Saturday.

Saturday marks the start of electoral campaigning after the Presidential Election Commission officially declared Sabahi and Sisi the two contenders of the presidential race.

Electoral campaigning will continue until 23 May. It will be followed by two days of electoral silence after which the elections will be held.

Younis Makhioun, Nour Party President, told Aswat Masriya exclusively last week that the party's decision is an institutional one.

It is enough for the party that the candidate does not oppose Islam and is religious as Egyptians are, Makhioun said.

We have set criteria for choosing the candidate we will support and we will see how each candidate fits these criteria, he explained.

Makhioun added that his party will make "the decision that is best for the country".
