CAIRO, April 6 (Aswat Masriya) Tens of political activists organized a demonstration near the Press Syndicate in Cairo's Downtown on Sunday to mark the anniversary of the founding of the April 6 movement.

The youth group played a significant role before and during the January 25 uprising that toppled Hosni Mubarak in 2011.

The initiative started out as a Facebook campaign calling for demonstrations in solidarity with Mahalla workers.

Egyptian authorities have stepped up security in Tahrir Square and closed all the roads leading to it.

The blocking of Tahrir has led to traffic conjunctions in nearby areas, the state news agency said.
