A number of Egyptians hailed President Mohamed Mursi at Cairo International Airport after his return from his first visit to both China and Iran.

Mursi and his accompanying delegation met with China’s Hu Jintao to sign a number of trade and economic agreements.

Following his visit to China, Mursi headed to the Iranian capital Tehran to attend the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit and hand over the chairmanship of the movement to Iran’s Ahmadinejad.

The president’s visit to Tehran lasted only for a few hours.

Mursi gave a sharp speech at the Non-Aligned summit held on Thursday which harmed Iran’s attempts to elevate its international status and receive approval of its nuclear programme and its policies in Syria.

Mursi, the first Egyptian president to visit Iran since its Islamic revolution in 1979, urged member countries of the NAM to support the Syrian people who are attempting to topple Syria’s Bashar al-Assad, the closest ally to Tehran among the Arab countries.

Upon his arrival, Mursi headed to his office at the presidency to work on a number of domestic issues that awaited him, Yasser Ali, presidential spokesman, said on Thursday.
