UPDATE – Court sentences 26 defendants in Mursi's prison break trial to 3 years

CAIRO, Nov 30 (Aswat Masriya) – The Cairo Criminal Court sentenced on Sunday the
Muslim Brotherhood's Leader Mohamed Badie and 25 other defendants accused of escaping prison to three years for insulting the judiciary.
Egypt's ousted Islamist President Mohamed Mursi and 130 others are accused of escaping from the Wadi al-Natroun prison during the January 25 uprising that toppled former President Hosni Mubarak in 2011.
Defendants attending Sunday's trial session, except for Mursi, chanted in court "void", which was seen by the judge heading the trial as an insult against the judiciary. The judge also ordered the sentenced defendants to pay a fine of 10 thousand Egyptian pounds.
The defence team withdrew from the trial session after the court accused the defendants of insulting the judiciary.
The court postponed the trial until December 20.
The Muslim Brotherhood leaders are accused of collaborating with international bodies, the Palestinian Hamas and Lebanese Hezbollah, to escape prison.
Mursi and the 130 other defendants are charged with murder and attempted murder of policemen, torching government buildings, breaking into prison and helping prisoners escape. Some of the defendants, including members of Hamas and Hezbollah, are being tried in absentia.
The former president, ousted since July 2013, is implicated in a group of other court cases. He is being tried for inciting the killing of protesters outside the presidential palace during his tenure in December 2012, insulting the judiciary, and two separate espionage cases.
