The official spokesman of the ultraconservative Nour Party, Sherif Taha, said on Monday that the makeup of the constituent assembly that will amend the constitution is "very bad."

Taha argued that the assembly only represents the "nationalist" and "leftist" agenda and deliberately excludes Islamists.

He added that the party might withdraw its representative Bassam al-Razqa from the assembly that was announced by Egypt's interim government on Sunday.

The Salafi spokesman added that the constitutional amendments will this way not represent the anticipated consensus that the country needs.

The party had expressed willingness to take part in the assembly to "defend the true identity of the Egyptian people" after other Islamist parties, including the Muslim Brotherhood, said they would boycott it.
