QALYUBIA, Sept 15 (Aswat Masriya) – Egypt's prosecutor general ordered on Sunday the detention of the steel contractor responsible for illegally building an extra floor in a factory which collapsed in Qalyubia, killing two workers and leaving four more missing under debris.

The dyeing factory, Ramzy Tex, collapsed on Sunday with the workers inside. The incident left 22 injured.

Civil protection forces are working on lifting the wreckage with the help of construction company Arab Contractors.Families of the victims blocked the Obour road on Monday, in protest over "the authorities' inaction." They said the authorities failed to send cranes to rescue those trapped under debris.

The building collapsed while workers were building a third floor for the factory during its night shift, those injured told the prosecution.

The public prosecution visited the site of the incident and issued an arrest warrant for the factory's owner, the engineer overseeing the building process and the wood contractor. The prosecution also ordered the steel contractor's detention for four days pending investigation.

The prosecution ordered the formation of a committee from the Qalyubia governorate's engineering department, housing directorate and legal affairs committee. The formed committee will look into the factory's license terms and the violations committed which led to the factory's collapse.
