NORTH SINAI, Oct 28 (Aswat Masriya) - The security forces in Sinai killed on Tuesday one of the perpetrators involved in the latest suicide attack against security personnel that killed 30 soldiers and injured 27 on Friday, a security source from the police told Aswat Masriya.

The source added that the security forces "chased one of the perpetrators as he tried to escape but they eliminated him."

A car exploded earlier this week in Sinai's Sheikh Zuwied targeting a security checkpoint, in one of the most violent attacks this year. The explosion also caused damage to two military vehicles.

The military has said earlier that it killed 10 "terrorists" who were also involved in this attack in previous statements.

Militants have stepped up their attacks targeting police and army forces in Sinai since the army's ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi in July 2013, which followed mass protests against his rule. The attacks expanded to other areas of the country, including the capital.

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi declared a three-months state of emergency in Sinai and a nighttime curfew in some areas of the governorate. He ratified on Saturday a military plan to counter terrorism in Sinai and on other strategic fronts during an emergency meeting with the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces.
