President Mohamed Mursi met with al-Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed al-Tayeb and Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria to discuss the challenges currently facing Egypt.

The meeting included discussions on the necessity of mobilising all economic and social potential to allow for development, the presidency wrote on its Facebook page.

Mursi praised the national and historical roles of both the institution of al-Azhar and the Church.

The president also expressed his keenness on communicating with both institutions to consult and exchange views on different issues.

Sheikh al-Tayeb and Pope Tawadros expressed gratitude for the president's meeting with them.
