Eight people were injured on Friday as clashes broke out between supporters and opponents of the Muslim Brotherhood in Kafr al-Sheikh's Metaubus.

Residents of the area assaulted demonstrators marching against the army and the police.

The march's organisers accused the head of police investigations of inciting unknown rioters to assault women and girls on the march.

The police investigations' head denied the accusation, saying that the police separated the two clashing parties.

Mursi supporters organised a number of marches following Friday's noon prayer in Cairo and several cities to express their support for Mursi before his trial on charges of inciting violence begins next Monday.

Mursi and several Brotherhood leading figures are charged with inciting violence during clashes between supporters and opponents of the Brotherhood at the presidential palace on December 5.

Eleven people, including Journalist al-Husseini Abu Deif, were killed while hundreds were injured in these clashes.
