CAIRO, Oct. 27 (Aswat Masriya) - The Administrative Court lifted a travel ban imposed on Egyptian Islamic preacher Mohamed Jibiril on Tuesday, more than three months after the ban was enforced.
On July 15 Jibril, who is known for his emotive voice reciting the holy Quran while leading prayers and making supplications, was stopped from boarding a flight to the United Kingdom last Ramadan.
The decision came "as per instructions from a security body," airport security sources told Aswat Masriya at the time. He was allowed to leave without arrest.
The travel ban came one day after the ministry of religious endowments banned Jibril from leading prayers in mosques as an Imam or from delivering any religious sermons.
The ministry filed a complaint accusing him of exploiting the communal prayers for political ends.
Two days prior to being stopped at the airport, Jibril made supplications against "oppressors" and the corrupt during nighly prayers held in the Islamic fasting month of Ramadan.
After learning that his name was on the travel ban list, Jibril filed a lawsuit at the Administrative Court against Egypt's president, premier, interior minister and top prosecutor, in which he contested that the travel-ban issued against him was "a violation of the constitution."
