CAIRO, Nov 26 (Aswat Masriya) - Egypt's constituent assembly suspended its sessions on Tuesday until all the detained protesters are released, the assembly's spokesman said.

The assembly's decision came after a number of its members announced freezing their membership in relation to the recent developments.

"The assembly's chairman decided to suspend the session and called the interior minister to resolve this problem," Mohamed Selmawi said.

At least 52 protesters were detained following the dispersal of a demonstration they held outside the Shura Council, where the constituent assembly holds its sessions.

Hundreds staged a protest in downtown Cairo to denounce the approval of an article stipulating military trials for civilians in the amended constitution.

The police used water cannons and teargas bombs to break up the demonstrations for the second time on Tuesday.

This counts as the first application of the newly-approved protest law which largely restricts the right to peaceful assembly.

The assembly members who decided to freeze their membership are Diaa Rashwan, Haggag Adol, Mosaad Abul Fagr, Amr Salah, Hoda al-Sada, Hussein Abdel Razek, Mahmoud Badr and Mohamed Abdel Aziz.
