CAIRO, Dec 25 (Aswat Masriya) - The medical report issued by al-Aqrab prison hospital denied on Thursday that jailed Islamic Preacher Mahmoud Shaaban suffered a stroke, adding that he is suffering from a "simple" psychological disorder.

Shaaban's family said that he suffered a stroke on Sunday at the state security prosecution headquarters in New Cairo's Fifth Settlement. They added that security apparatuses remained silent about the incident, which led to further complications resulting in his partial paralysis and loss of the ability to move his leg and left arm.

The prison's report, however, stated that Shaaban was examined by a contracted psychiatric and neurological diseases consultant, who affirmed that the defendant suffered from a "transient psychological condition", and recommended a "simple" psychiatric treatment.

Shaaban's blood tests' results were within the normal ranges, and he does not require further medical procedures, according to the report.

Shaaban, who was recently suspended by al-Azhar University, was arrested by security forces on November 25, and accused of "inciting violence".

He was arrested after performing the evening prayer at a mosque in the Zaitoun neighbourhood in eastern Cairo, and was reportedly transferred to the prosecution right away to begin its investigation.

Azhar University suspended Shaaban, who teaches Islamic and Arabic studies there, earlier in November over allegations that he incited violence. University Chairman Abdel Hai Azab told state-run al-Ahram that he would remain suspended pending an investigation into the accusations leveled against him.

Shaaban was a vocal supporter of the regime of ousted Islamist President Mohamed Mursi. His religious statements often caused controversy.
