CAIRO, Aug 11 (Aswat Masriya) - Nineteen senior citizens died in Egypt on Monday and 92 experienced heat-related fatigue, the Health Ministry said, which raises the death toll from brutal heat this week to 40.

The deceased include 11 who died in Cairo, while the rest are scattered across the country, the ministry said in a statement published by state news agency MENA.

They also include three patients at the Khanka Psychiatric Hospital, north of Cairo.

This comes after the elevated heat killed 21 on Sunday, when the temperature peaked to 39 degrees Celsius (102 degrees Fahrenheit) in Cairo.

Egypt has been hit by brutal heat this summer, especially in the past few weeks.

The state's meteorological authority expects high temperatures to continue across Egypt into Tuesday.

The Health Ministry reiterated its warning to senior citizens and people with chronic diseases, calling on them to avoid direct exposure to sunlight, particularly at noon and to take protective measures.
