The “Ana Huna” (I am here) initiative has launched a campaign to support the women of Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia and Morocco economically and socially through short films and documentaries.

Hala Abdel Qader, a member of the initiative, said that societies pay little attention to what activists have to say about women rights and their struggles, but displaying these issues through film may be more influential than holding seminars or conferences.  

The nine films, which will be screened in their respective countries, include "Om Amira" directed by Nagy Ismail, "Hekayet Nun" by Laila Samy and "Ma Fawk al-Sehab" by Fesna Shalaby. 

"We must stop differentiating between men and women especially at an early age," Laila Samy said, adding that many parents raise their sons believing they are better than the opposite sex. 

She explained that women issues need a lot more focus in the media, the entertainment industry and school curriculums to build a balanced society.

The initiative groups several movements and non-governmental organizations concerned with women rights.
