CAIRO, Mar 6 (Aswat Masriya) - Egypt's Foreign Minister called on Thursday for founding an international fund to collect arms in Libya in coordination with both Libya and the United Nations.

This initiative aims to prevent incidents that jeopardize Libya's security and leads to the death of civilians.

Seven Coptic Egyptians were shot dead in Libya in February near Benghazi, where assassinations and kidnaps are common.

A Foreign Ministry statement said that Minister Nabil Fahmi proposed the initiative during a speech he gave at an international ministerial conference in Italy's Rome.

Foreign ministers from various countries such as the United States and Russia attended the meeting.

Cairo will host the international ministerial conference on controlling Libyan borders, Fahmi stated.

He emphasised "the importance of helping Libya encounter the big challenge of controlling its borders ... which some terrorist organisations and organised crime gangs exploit."
