CAIRO, May 1 (Aswat Masriya) - Egypt has bought 750,000 tonnes of local wheat since the beginning of the local wheat buying season in mid-April, Supplies Minister Khaled Hanafy said on Friday.
Around 3.7 million tonnes are expected to be delivered, leading to an increase in the strategic reserves which would suffice until October, Hanafy said in a statement. Ten million Egyptian pounds were allocated for the purchase.
The local wheat buying season is scheduled to last until mid-June.
Egypt is the world's largest wheat importer, importing around 10 million tonnes annually.
