SUEZ, July 22 (Aswat Masriya) A medium-sized earthquake struck Suez for the third time on Tuesday. It was also felt in Cairo, said Hatem Ouda, head of the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG).

The earthquake took place near Suez’ Hujul valley, 130 kms northeast of Cairo.

The first earthquake occurred on July 5 and the second on July 18. The last one was of a 4.2 magnitude. All three quakes happened in the same location.

The earthquake was caused possibly by a fracture in the earth’s crust below the Hujul valley, according to geology professor Ahmed Hosny of NRIAG.

Areas of East Cairo are more prone to feel earthquakes due to their proximity to the epicenter, noted the Professor.
