CAIRO, Oct 7 (Aswat Masriya) - Egypt's Supreme Administrative court excluded on Wednesday belly dancer Sama El Masry from the parliamentary elections race, accpeting an appeal challenging her candidacy bid. 

El Masry was excluded for lacking "trust" and "a good reputation". 

Lawyer Samir Sabry, who filed the appeal against her, said that he was surprised that the Supreme Elections Commisssion accepted El Masry's candidacy papers.

Sabry, who is a resident of Gamalia, the constituency where El Masry planning to compete, said that her bid triggered anger and resentment in the area. 

El Masry had explained in media interviews that choosing the knife as her symbol was apt because it represents the behavior of the people who live in the constituency where she is running. This offended Sabry who said that Gamalia and the neighboring Mansheyet Nasser "are not a hub for thugs" as the knife seems to imply.

"It is an insult to our constituency and to the House of Representatives," said Sabry. "She is not fit to be part of the legislative authority." 

The oriental dance performer rose to stardom through her online videos criticising Islamists under the rule of former President Mohamed Mursi in 2013, and satirical videos attacking U.S. President Barack Obama that have gone viral on social media.
