CAIRO, May 30 (Aswat Masriya) - Presidential contender Abdel Fattah al-Sisi's campaign accused on Friday a Kuwaiti newspaper of fabricating statements he allegedly made to the newspaper.

Al-Jarida, a Kuwaiti daily newspaper, published a story quoting former Defence Minister Sisi in its Friday 30 May issue.

"Field Marshal Abdel Fattah al-Sisi did not make a statement to the cited newspaper," the campaign said in a statement.

What was published was taken from previous statements for Sisi in various interviews conducted during the electoral campaigning phase, the campaign said.

The campaign urged media outlets to maintain professional standards and follow the profession’s code of conduct in producing their stories.

It also warned against making false statements and attributing them to Sisi, even if they are positive statements or ones he previously said.

Sisi had a sweeping victory over his rival Hamdeen Sabahi by garnering more than 90 percent of the total vote count in the presidential election held last week.
