President Mohamed Mursi agreed on Thursday to promote the heads of the main Armed Forces branches (Air Force - Navy - Air Defence) to Lieutenant General, a source said.

The president emphasised his rejection for attempts to distort the military institution and insult it or its leaders, the source added.

Murs held a meeting this evening with the Supreme Council of Armed Forces to follow the developments of the situation domestically and externally.

The meeting which lasted for more than one hour was held at the head quarters of the Defence Ministry's general secretariat.
