CAIRO, Jul 25 (Aswat Masriya) - A conscript was killed in North Sinai on Saturday after an unidentified sniper shot him in the head from a long distance, security sources said.

The conscript worked in the police station of Sheikh Zuweid, a town which, like many other North Sinai towns and cities, has become the site of frequent militant attacks.

Security forces are combing wide areas to find the perpetrators, the security sources said.

They added that the deceased conscript has been taken to military hospital.

On Friday, an explosion in North Sinai's Sheikh Zuweid town injured two military officers and a conscript, security sources said.

Militancy inside Egypt has seen a significant rise since the military ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi in July 2013, following mass protests against his rule. Most attacks target security forces in North Sinai.

The Egyptian armed forces backed by the air force are is targeting militants and their gathering points across the northern part of the peninsula.
