ALEXANDRIA, March 9 (Aswat Masriya) Authorities in Alexandria have arrested a "terrorist cell" that they said has committed a number of crimes against state institutions and police forces, an official said.

In a Facebook statement, the official said that the network, which includes three individuals, was funded by the Muslim Brotherhood.

Egypt declared the Brotherhood a "terrorist organization" in December in response to a wave of violence that followed the overthrow of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi in July.

Rights NGOs have criticized what they described as the interim government's "fierce crackdown" against Islamists since Mursi's overthrow.
