Egypt's army spokesman said on Wednesday that the armed forces have formed a technical team to check the validity of an Israeli announcement that two airstrikes hit its city of Eilat from Sinai early today.

"Egypt has never been and will never be a source of threat to its geographic neighbors on all strategic levels," General Ahmed Aly explained in a Facebook statement.

An Islamist group had claimed responsibility for the attack that the Israeli Defense Forces said caused no damages early Wednesday.
