CAIRO, Jan 26 (Aswat Masriya) - A train carriage was set ablaze on Monday upon arriving at the Shebin al-Kom station in Menufia, leaving at least 17 injured, the Menufia governor told state news agency MENA.

Civil Protection forces as well as fire fighters were able to put out the fire that engulfed a carriage carrying newspapers.

The criminal lab initially determined that the fire started as a result of an accelerant.

Menufia has witnessed escalating violence in the last few days, including electricity pylon explosions in Quesna and Shebin al-Kom, a fire on a train and a train track explosion.

Egypt's cabinet decided on Sunday to partially close some train lines during night hours until the end of January "to ensure the public's safety."

Explosions and fires have targeted trains and railways in several governorates since the army ousted Islamist President Mohamed Mursi in July 2013 following mass protests against his rule.
