Dakahlia, March 12 (Aswat Masriya) Egyptian authorities arrested a "terrorist cell" in Dakahlia on Wednesday, the interior ministry said.

In a statement on Wednesday, the ministry said that the group has committed crimes against state institutions and police forces with the purpose of spreading chaos in the country.

The statement added that the cell included 11 people who have confessed to crimes, including the killing of a police officer, and was funded by the Muslim Brotherhood.

Authorities in Alexandria arrested another cell on Sunday.

Egypt declared the Brotherhood a "terrorist organization" in December in response to a wave of violence that followed the overthrow of President Mohamed Mursi in July.

Rights NGOs have criticized what they described as the interim government's "fierce crackdown" against Mursi's supporters since his overthrow.
