Former US president and head of the Carter Centre Jimmy Carter visited some polling centres on Wednesday morning in Al-Sayeda Zeinab and Al-Sayeda Aisha neighbourhoods to monitor the voting process, Al-Masry Al-Youm newspaper reported.

Carter conversed with several voters awaiting their turn to cast their votes.

The newspaper did not provide any more details.

Carter arrived in Cairo a few days ago. He stated he was here to witness the elections, not to monitor them.
