CAIRO, Jan 17 (Aswat Masriya) - Hundreds of the Syndicate of Engineers members have begun casting their votes on Friday for a motion of no-confidence against the syndicate's board.

The board is headed by Maged Khalousi, who supports the Muslim Brotherhood which was recently labelled a terrorist organisation.

Egypt's Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Mohamed Abdel Motteleb, who is the syndicate's general supervisor, has urged engineers to take part in the syndicate's extraordinary general assembly meeting held at Cairo Stadium on Friday.

The general assembly is calling for a no-confidence vote against the syndicate's current board because of its failure to fulfill its electoral promises, the state-run Middle East News Agency reported.

The judicial committee overseeing the general assembly meeting has announced quorum, with more than 300 members present.

The voting process which started early on Friday will continue until 5 pm, the committee said.

Khalousi and all members of the syndicate's higher board, who are members of the Muslim Brotherhood, were absent during the voting process.

Police forces tightened security at the Cairo Stadium to secure the assembly's meeting.
