Attempt to storm a Cairo police station thwarted

Unidentified assailants tried to storm a police station in Cairo's Rod al-Farag area on Friday. The security forces responding by firing at the assailants who fired back with live ammunition and rubber-bullets.

The forces manged to arrest some of the assailants who tried to storm the Rod al-Farag police station.

An Aswat Masriya eyewitness said that residents of the area clashed with the unknown armed group who were estimated at dozens.

The witnesses added that the armed group came from Ramses Square's direction, which witnessed clashes earlier today between the security forces and supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood.

The same police station was torched in 2011 during the events of the January uprising.

The clashes left casualties on both sides, no details are provided yet.
