Nobel Laureate and prominent opposition figure Mohamed ElBaradei said on his Twitter account on Thursday that the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights’ assessment on Egypt proves that the Egyptian government has “lost its connection with the revolution.” 

“Damning statement by UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (regarding) Egypt democracy, freedom (and) justice!” said the former director of the International Atomic Energy Agency and coordinator of Egypt’s main opposition alliance (the National Salvation Front). 

"Revolution derailed (and) under siege," ElBaradei added.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay warned the Egyptian government on Wednesday that a draft law on civil rights organizations, which is currently being discussed by the legislature, may lead to a crackdown on rights groups. 

International and local actors have criticised the draft law, fearing that it may drag Egypt into an era darker than that lived under toppled President Hosni Mubarak in terms of rights and freedoms.
