CAIRO, Aug 16 (Aswat Masriya) - The death toll from clashes which devolved from protests staged by supporters of ousted President Mohamed Mursi on Friday rose to five, according to a health ministry official.

Khaled al-Khatib, head of the health ministry's critical care unit, added to Aswat Masriya that 34 people were injured during Friday's clashes.

Mursi supporters have been staging protests since Thursday to commemorate the first anniversary of the forcible dispersal of two pro-Mursi sit-ins last August. The dispersals left hundreds killed and were described by international watchdog Human Rights Watch as "the most serious incident of mass unlawful killings in modern Egyptian history."

The Ministry of Interior accused pro-Mursi protesters of firing live ammunition and birdshot during clashes with other residents on Friday. It arrested 193 protesters.

The ministry had reported three deaths on Friday. It said one of those killed was a resident of Giza's Faisal neighbourhood, while the two other casualties were from the pro-Mursi protesters.

At least four were killed on Thursday following protests marking one year since the Rabaa Al-Adawiya sit-in's dispersal, including one policeman.
