CAIRO, Dec 4 (Aswat Masriya) - One man was killed and another was injured on Thursday following an attempt to target armed forces personnel securing a Suez Canal Authority building in the Canal governorate of Ismailia.
Two men on a motorbike broke into the security checkpoint of the watchtower despite being warned by security personnel, the second field army commander said in a statement. The first was killed and the second was transferred to the public hospital after being shot in his left thigh.
Army commanders and Ismailia security chief moved to investigate the accident and comb the area for any foreign bodies in the vicinity of the building.
Militants have stepped up attacks targeting security forces in Egypt, particularly in the Sinai Peninsula, since the army's ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi in July 2013, which followed mass protests against his rule.
Egypt's security forces have intensified their security measures in North Sinai in reaction to repeated militant attacks that target army and police officials, which rose significantly since the military ouster of Mursi last year.
