Egyptian human rights activist Mona Seif and her mother Laila Soueif joined an ongoing hunger strike Thursday, announced Seif.

"We took the decision the moment Alaa announced his strike – later Sanaa joined us – but we postponed it because our priority was our father and being in a state that allows us to take care of him," wrote Seif on her Facebook profile.

Mona Seif's father, renowned human rights lawyer and activist Ahmed Seif El-Islam, died 28 August due to heart problems.

His children Alaa and Sanaa, who are also activists, are currently being detained.

Alaa and Sanaa had been arrested over two months ago for breaking a controversial protest law that bans all but police-sanctioned demonstrations.

Alaa had started his a hunger strike on 18 August and Sanaa joined him on 29 August in protest to their detainment.

According to Facebook page, "We are fed up" which supports detainees on hunger strike, 24 detainees are currently on a hunger strike, the most recent having started four days ago and the oldest 221 days ago.
