Scores of protesters on Friday chanted slogans in Cairo’s Tahrir Square calling for the intervention of the Egyptian army, an Aswat Masriya witness reported.

Hundreds gathered in the square to protest against the rule of President Mohamed Mursi and the Muslim Brotherhood.

Sheikh Mohamed Abdallah, the imam who led Friday noon prayers in Tahrir today, rejected the idea of opening the square to traffic.

Abdallah, founder of a group of Azhar Sheikhs calling for a civil state, accused the brotherhood of rioting and vandalism.

Demonstrators chanted against heads of the military council Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi and Lieutenant General Sami Anan who handed power over to Mursi after he was elected president last June.

Scores of demonstrators also set up a platform at the Ittihadiya presidential palace in Cairo where they placed pictures of 16 soldiers who were killed by Jihadists in an attack on Sinai’s Rafah last year.
