CAIRO, Nov 12 (Aswat Masriya) - One person was killed and another injured in a blast on the ring road in Giza early Wednesday.

Two men were driving through the ring on a motorbike carrying an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), reported state-run news agency MENA. The explosion killed one of them and injured the other.

A security source told MENA on condition of anonymity that security forces arrested the injured perpetrator.

Egypt's security forces have intensified their security measures in North Sinai in reaction to repeated militant attacks that target army and police officials, which rose significantly since the military ouster of former President Mohamed Mursi last year, after mass protests against his rule. The attacks soon expanded to other areas of the country, including the capital.

A fact-sheet prepared by Egypt's ministry of foreign affairs put the death toll for terrorism acts which took place since January 2011 and until April 2014 at 971, including 664 security personnel.

Blasts in residential areas are usually carried out using IEDs.
