Potential presidential candidate, Abdel Moneim Abul Fotouh, said he was pleased with the results of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) but he did not expect the results of the Salafist al-Nour Party.

In an interview with ON TV’s “Akher Kalam” program, Abul Fotouh said, “I do not hide my happiness with the results of the Freedom and Justice Party because this is the struggle of many people who made sacrifices for this country. And the result was fair elections.”

Abul Fotouh was a leading member in the Muslim Brotherhood but he lost his membership after violating the brotherhood’s policy when he announced his intention to run for president.

He stressed that Egypt has an Islamic identity.

Abul Fotouh said that he does not agree with the leading member in the Muslim Brotherhood Mahmoud Ghezlan’s suggestion for safe exit for the military rulers to ensure transfer of power. He added, “Any party involved in the killing of Egyptians. Nobody can afford to abandon the rights of martyrs. Their murderers should be held accountable along with those who instigated them.”
