CAIRO, Jan 28 (Aswat Masriya) Egyptian authorities have arrested the perpetrators behind Tuesday's attack on the Virgin Mary Church in October 6 City, which killed one policeman, the interior ministry said.

The checkpoint guarding the church was attacked by gunmen earlier on Tuesday.

Two of the attackers were found wounded as a result of the fire exchange with the security forces who said they were carrying weapons when captured.

Tens of churches and property belonging to Coptic Christians have witnessed attacks since the ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi in July and more than 250 army and police personnel have been killed.

Earlier on Tuesday, a high profile security general was killed by gunmen near his residence in Haram.
